Visiting Grand Canyon National Park
First and foremost, it should be noted that the best time to visit the Grand Canyon is between the months of March and May, or September through November. The weather during these months is much more pleasant than it is during the summertime, which is when temperatures can easily exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Trust us, you don’t want to be hiking around in that kind of heat!
Check out the Best Lookout Points
When you’re at the Grand Canyon, you want to be sure to check out all the best and most iconic lookout points for panoramic views of this vast canyon. Hopi Point, Mohave Point, Mather Point, and Lipan Point are all spots you don’t want to miss out on that offer sweeping vistas of the striking rock formations in that make up this park. Hopi, Mohave, and Mather Point can all be easily reached via free shuttles that run in the park and Lipan Point is about a 20-mile drive from Grand Canyon Village. These locations offer incredible views of the magnificent South Rim and the winding Colorado River.
Take a Hike
If you’re feeling adventurous, hike the Bright Angel and South Kaibab Trails. The Bright Angel Trail is about 15 miles in total length, so you can totally opt to just do a portion of it, or all of it if you’re up for the task! The South Kaibab Trail is around 6 miles in length and takes you down to the Colorado River. Both trails will award you with amazing perspectives of the park and access to viewpoints you can only get to on foot. Just be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen!
Grand Canyon Village and Railway
If you need a bit of a break from hiking and hitting all the best viewpoints in the park, there are still amazing pastimes you can take advantage of during your visit to the Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon Village could be considered the home base of the national park and is where you’ll find the Visitor Center, historic lodging options, and access to Mather Campground if you want a more immersive outdoor experience while staying here. At Grand Canyon Village you’ll also be able to hop on the Grand Canyon Railway, which runs for 64 miles and was built in the early 1900s. The railway offers visitors a way to see the South Rim in a highly unique and exciting way.
